  • Bio:   Mary Shelley (born Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin) was a British novelist, short story writer, and travel writer. She received very little formal education, but her father tutored his children and often took them on educational trips. Shelley is said to have thought of the idea for "Frankenstein" upon waking from a dream. She started writing it and thought it would be a short story, but with encouragement from her husband she turned it into a novel.
