Our Stories
Speakaboos' stories fall into six genres:
Fables
Fables are succinct stories in either prose or verse that feature animals, plants, inanimate objects, or forces of nature which are anthropomorphized (given human qualities). Every fable illustrates a lesson or moral, which may be expressed explicitly in a pithy maxim at the conclusion of the story. Although a fable is a fictional story, the moral lesson always pertains to real life.
Fairy Tales
Fairy tales are stories that feature magic and/or mythical characters such as fairies, goblins, witches, elves, trolls, giants, talking animals, and others. These stories often involve royalty and usually resolve to a happy ending. Sometimes, these stories are retold as folk tales, and other times they are written and owned by a particular author.
Folk Tales
Folk tales are part of the expressive culture of a particular group of people, dealing with religion, myths, traditions, and/or everyday life. Even though there is usually no single definitive version or author of a folk tale, it becomes well-known throughout the culture through oral or written retelling.
Nursery Rhymes
Nursery Rhymes are simple and traditional songs or poems sung and/or taught to young children, often as early as the nursery. Learning such verse helps children develop vocabulary, memorization skills, and can often help with counting and rhyming. Nursery rhymes are commonly accompanied by specific motions or dances.
Lullabies
Lullabies are soothing songs usually sung to children before sleep. It is believed that the song's familiarity and repetition, especially if sung by a familiar voice, will lull children to sleep more quickly and comfortably.
