"Goldilocks and the Three Bears"

Once upon a time there were three good bears who lived in a cottage in the forest.

One was a wee small bear, one was a middle-sized bear, and the other bear was humongous.

Each bear had his own pot of porridge.

There was a tiny pot for the Wee Small Bear, a mid-sized pot for the Middle Bear, and a great, huge pot for Humongous Bear.

And each bear had his own comfy chair to sit upon.

There was a tiny chair for Wee Small Bear, a middle-sized chair for Middle Bear, and a great, huge chair for Humongous Bear.

And each bear had a bed to sleep in that was just perfect for him.

There was a tiny bed for Wee Small Bear, a middle-sized bed for Middle Bear, and a great, huge bed for Humongous Bear.

One morning at breakfast, the bears poured steaming hot porridge into their porridge pots.

Then while they waited for the food to cool they walked out into the forest.

But while the bears were out, a selfish little girl with beautiful blonde curls named Goldilocks crept up to the house.

First Goldilocks peered in at the window.

Then she peeped in through the keyhole.

Then, seeing nobody home, she lifted the latch and walked in.

Inside the kitchen Goldilocks was delighted to find three bowls of porridge.
"Jackpot!" she exclaimed.

Because she was a rude little girl, Goldilocks sat down at the table without being invited and began to eat.

First, she tasted Humongous Bear's porridge, but that was too hot for her.
"Oww!" she cried out.

Next, she tasted Middle Bear's porridge, but that was too cold for her.
"Blech!" she yelled, spitting out the food.

Finally, she tasted Wee Small Bear's porridge, which was neither too hot nor too cold.

It tasted just right.

"Yummy!" she said.

Goldilocks quickly gobbled down Wee Small Bear's porridge.

But after eating, she was still hungry.

"Fie!" she cried, looking into Wee Small Bear's empty porridge pot.

Looking around, Goldilocks noticed the bears' three comfy chairs.
She went in and sat down in Humongous Bear's chair, but that was too hard for her.

Next she sat down in Middle Bear's chair, but that was too soft for her.

Finally she sat down in Wee Small Bear's chair, which was neither too hard nor too soft.

It felt just right.

"Ahh!" she said.

Goldilocks sat there until the bottom of the chair broke and she went crashing down.

"Phooey!" she exclaimed from the floor with a sore bottom.

But soon, as she felt better, Goldilocks got up and climbed the stairs to the bedroom.

"Nice," she said, seeing the bears' three warm beds.

First Goldilocks lay down in Humongous Bear's bed, but that was too high at the head for her.

Next she lay down in the Middle Bear's bed, but that was too high at the foot.
Finally Goldilocks lay down on the Wee Small Bear's bed.

The bed was neither too high at the head nor too high at the foot.
It felt just right for her.

"Mmm," she said, yawning.

Goldilocks covered herself with the blankets, rolled over, and went to sleep.

"Sganawwwww," she snored away.

By this time the three good bears thought their porridge was cool enough to eat, so they came back to the kitchen.

"Hey, somebody's been eating my porridge," exclaimed Humongous Bear with his deep, gruff voice. "They left the spoon standing in it!"

"And somebody's been eating my porridge," said Middle Bear, with his velvety smooth voice. "The spoon is standing in mine, too!"

Then Wee Small Bear looked at his empty porridge pot with the spoon lying in the bottom.

"And somebody's been eating my porridge," he exclaimed with his squeaky little voice. "And they've eaten it all up, too!"

The three good bears now went out to search the living room.

"Somebody's been sitting in my chair," growled Humongous Bear. "The cushion's not straight!"

"And somebody's been sitting in my chair," exclaimed Middle Bear. "My cushion is also not straight!"

Wee Small Bear was now standing sadly before his busted-up chair.

"Somebody's been in my chair," he cried squeakily. "And they've broken through the bottom!"

Feeling very worried, the three good bears now went upstairs to search the bedroom.

"Somebody's been lying in my bed," said Humongous Bear. "The pillow's out of place!"

"And somebody's been lying in my bed," added Middle Bear. "The footrest is out of place!"

But when Wee Small Bear looked at his bed, the pillow and footrest were both in their proper places.

However, resting upon the pillow was the tiny, golden-curled head of Goldilocks.

"Somebody's been lying in my bed," shouted Wee Small Bear. "And here she is!"
Wee Small Bear's voice was so sharp and so shrill that it instantly woke up Goldilocks.

She sprang up and was shocked to see three angry bears on one side of her bed.

So she tumbled out of the other side of the bed and ran to the open window.
Then she jumped out and fell two stories to the ground.

Some say that Goldilocks hurt her leg, limped into the forest, and got lost.
Others say that she learned her lesson about being kind to others and became a good little girl from that day forward.

But what is most certain is that Goldilocks never bothered the three good bears ever again.
