“The Goose that laid the Golden Egg” by Aesop
A simple farmer and his wife were blessed to have a magical goose live with them. This goose was not like all the other geese in the farm. No, this goose was special. While all the other geese would lay plain eggs, this goose laid the most magnificent golden eggs in all the land. They weighed a ton, sparkled brighter than the sun, and were worth more than anything you can imagine.
Every morning the farmer would go and collect these special eggs, and he grew incredibly rich by selling them to the Kings and Emperors around him. But as he grew rich, he also grew greedy and so he and his wife devised a plan to get all of the goose's gold at once. Thinking that the bird must be made of pure gold inside, they decided to cut it open and obtain all of its riches at once. But when they searched inside their magical goose, they could not find an ounce of gold. All they had was a dead goose that would no longer lay any golden eggs.
THE END
